Political Science
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Political Science, as a foundational discipline that shapes social awareness and civic responsibility, has been a core component of the college curriculum since the institution’s inception in 2011. Located in the tribal heartland of the Alluri Sitharama Raju District, the Department of Political Science has played a significant role in imparting political education to students belonging predominantly to socially and educationally disadvantaged and tribal communities. The programme has been consciously designed to promote constitutional literacy, democratic values, and political empowerment among first-generation learners from remote and rural areas.
In its initial phase, Political Science was offered in combination with History and Economics under the conventional three-subject undergraduate programme. Over the years, the subject expanded its academic presence through interdisciplinary combinations, including Political Science with History and Special Telugu during the academic year 2021–2022. With the introduction of the Single Major System in the academic year 2023–2024, Political Science emerged as a Major discipline, reflecting the department’s growing academic relevance and its commitment to addressing governance, grassroots democracy, and public policy issues specific to tribal and rural societies.
