ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

History, being a core discipline that plays a vital role in shaping society and nurturing civic consciousness, has been an integral part of the curriculum since the inception of the college in 2011. The subject has been imparted with a special focus on providing historical knowledge to students from socially and educationally disadvantaged sections residing in the Alluri Sitharama Raju District. Initially, History was offered in combination with Political Science and Economics under the conventional three-subject undergraduate programme. Subsequently, the subject was expanded to include combinations with Economics and Tourism & Travel Management during the academic year 2020–2021 and with Political Science and Special Telugu in 2021–2022. With the implementation of the Single Major System in the academic year 2023–2024, History was designated as a Minor subject under the Political Science Major programme.

The Government Degree College, Arakuvalley has started in 2011. Initially it was functioned at Government Degree College, Paderu campus. The college with Department of History has been functioning in Ravalaguda , Arakuvalley since 2012.
